I am guessing the previous owner had a problem with this as in the boot I have found an almost full bottle of "Carlube ATF-Q3" auto transmission fluid. The spec is Ford Mercon WSPM2C185A I have topped her up (through the dipstick hole), run her round the block and then dipped again.

I have a 2015 Ford Mondeo Trend TDCi auto , its been towed to Ford 3 times since new , each time with gearbox issue. the car was a week old when it was towed the 1st time ( 2 weeks to fix ), it would show transmission fault and stalled and could not be restarted ,the 2nd time the gear changers jolted and locked into 2nd gear (2 weeks to fix)
