Crankshaft position sensor failed resulting in no engine ignition and a flatbed tow to the dealer. evidently this is a fairly common occurence due to age of vehicle. 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL500 30,000 mi, Visitor. Engine would die, then restart after cooling for 15 minutes. Sensor was replaced for $285 and all is well.
Figure 1 Here we are at the back of the engine on the top left side of the transmission bell-housing. Locate the crankshaft position sensor cover (green arrow). Remove the cover by popping it off. You should not need to use a plastic prying tool but you can if you would like. This picture illustrates the engine out of the car for photographic

That may the be least of the issues. the M119 recomended oil is 15w/40,, 20W-50 for temps above freezing or so. IIRC 10W-30 was listed as acceptable for temps below 0F or so, but not high ambient and 10W40 for temps between around 0F and 100F. 97 SL500 Imperial Red/Parchment Leather/Black Top.
